Zara Was 'Killed' By Family Ignorance, Not By Disease - Singer's Friend

Ilo, a creative consultant with many years experience in books/magazine publishing, film production, said she spoke with Zara on Tuesday. And Zara told Ilo that family gave her 'Agbo' to drink and that it was killing her. According to Ilo, it was her exact words.
Yemisi Ilo strictly forbid Zara to drink Agbo. "With an already compromised immune system – Agbo is bullshit. It is poison. MS is not malaria," Ilo said.
Ilo continued: "I gave Zara clear details of exactly what she needed to do to try to get well. It isn’t easy AT ALL – I should know but unfortunately for her, she was surrounded by very ignorant people at the end who felt that they knew best."
Yemisi Ilo heard about Zara for the first time when she read her on Linda Ikeji‘s blog a year ago. She got in touch with her and started a Skype friendship. "I was in London and she was in the States (US). We spoke regularly. When I went back to Lagos, we would WhatsApp and I would call her. When she came to Nigeria in October last year, I went to see her and she was surprised that she could move better than me! I organized the Battabox interview (which we did at my parents house). She said she didn’t want to live with her mum in the States – yet she had no one to look after her there apart from her mum. She needed someone. She even wanted to come and stay with me, but I am married with small children and my own MS issues were already enough for one house," Ilo said.
Zara's friend expressed her irritation: "I am so pissed off, so angry, so fucking sad, teary and frustrated. If I had been in Nigeria, I would have gone to pick her up on Tuesday when I spoke to her. She was so desperate to leave Ogba. She said she had a return ticket to America and would try to leave ASAP. I gave her my neurologist’s number so she could get some steroids to help her get over the horrible relapse she was having. Also to get her to explain the condition to Zara’s family so they would realize that this was not an ‘Agbo’ matter."
"I have had MS for nearly 10 years. My walking has deteriorated and I am currently alternating between a walker and a wheelchair. Zara was worried that she wouldn’t get married and have kids – I told her that I had 4 kids and was happily married and continued to work and that there was hope.
"Granted, I am extremely fortunate to have the strength of character and a loving and supportive and enlightened family to deal with this HORRIBLE condition that has led to this opportunity for me to undergo Hemapioetic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) – Google it. It has taken donations from over 100 people to do this. It costs over $150k (N24,727,501). I told Zara that since she was a US citizen, she could get on a trial at the University of Chicago under Dr. Burt for free. I just want people to know that MS didn’t kill Zara – ignorance did. As well as our fatalistic attitude in Nigeria where everyone prays and no one takes action."

Femi Kuti's Songs Inspire Me--Grammy Award Winner, Alicia Keys Says

Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American R&B singer-songwriter, pianist, musician, record producer, and actress, and is one of the few foreign artistes who have begun to appreciate African music especially Nigerian songs.

Recently, Alicia Keys hipped praises on the song of Afro-beat Legend, Femi Kuti, titled 'No Place for my Dream,' stating that the song gives her inspiration.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian music legend was nominated for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards with 3 other artistes.
He lost out to French group Gipsy Kings and South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It was a tie.

Though the son of the late Afro Beat legend Fela Kuti, has been nominated severally for the Grammys but has never won it before, but his music continues to receive accolades from both local and international audience.

Femi Kuti who has grown less optimistic about getting a Grammy Award did not attend the awards show. He was represented by elder sister Yeni Kuti.

In 2003, Kuti picked up his first Grammy Award nomination but lost out to Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades. He similarly lost in 2010 when he was nominated in the same category. US banjo player Bela Fleck walked away with the award.

In 2011, Kuti once again lost the award to Malian band Tinariwen for the album Tassili.

Meanwhile, throughout her career, Keys has won numerous awards and has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Also, she became the first female to have an MTV Unplugged album to debut at number one and the highest since Nirvana in 1994.

Still No Sign of Malaysian Jet Lost in 'unprecedented mystery'

The disappearance of a Malaysian jetliner is an "unprecedented aviation mystery", a senior official said on Monday, with a massive air and sea search now in its third day failing to find any confirmed trace of the plane or 239 people aboard.

The head of Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, said a hijacking could not be ruled out as investigators explore all theories for the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 en route to Beijing.

"Unfortunately we have not found anything that appears to be objects from the aircraft, let alone the aircraft," he told a news conference.

"As far as we are concerned, we have to find the aircraft, we have to find a piece of the aircraft if possible."
As dozens of ships and aircraft from seven countries scour the seas around Malaysia and south of Vietnam, questions mounted over possible security lapses and whether a bomb or hijacking could have brought down the Boeing airliner.

Interpol confirmed on Sunday at least two passengers used stolen passports and said it was checking whether others aboard had used false identity documents.

Flight MH370 disappeared from radar screens in the early hours of Saturday, about an hour into its flight from Kuala Lumpur, after climbing to a cruising altitude of 35,000 ft.

A Vietnamese navy plane reported seeing what could have been a piece of the aircraft as darkness fell across the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea on Sunday, but ships and aircraft returning in daylight have so far found nothing.

Underlining the lack of hard information about the plane's fate, a U.S. Navy P-3 aircraft capable of covering 1,500 sq miles every hour was sweeping the northern part of the Strait of Malacca on Monday, on the other side of the Malay peninsula from where the last contact with MH370 was made.

"Our aircraft are able to clearly detect small debris in the water, but so far it has all been trash or wood," said U.S. 7th Fleet spokesman Commander William Marks in an emailed statement.

Shares in Malaysia Airlines fell as much as 18 percent to a record low on Monday morning.

GodFather GodSon [Official Video] by Eedris Abdulkareem

Eedris Abdulkareem has proven over the years that beyond being an artiste he is much more of a social crusader who is not afraid to preach that which he believes in.

It is via this path that this enigma has chosen to awaken Nigerians to the goings-on on our political turf.

He is making a clarion call to all and sundry not to sit on the fence and allow political gladiators and rabble rousers to confuse and mislead them.

I AM NIGERIA PROJECT
This is an initiative to bring Nigeria youths together to speak with one voice for what they believe in.

It is conceptualized to help address the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian youths within and outside Nigeria. With this platform we hope to challenge public officials and institutions that are performing below standards.

When there are opportunities for employment and empowerment we will through this platform push qualified members of I AM Nigeria forward.

We hope to raise a trust fund with which to help touch the lives of Nigerian youths ana discourage them from being used as thugs, arsonists and assassins by politicians.

We are already leaders but we will ensure that we come together since we as youths outnumber the adults to take over the reins of power and move Nigeria forward and make it become the true Giant of Africa.

FACE OF I AM NIGERIA PROjECT
We made a seven year old girl the ambassador of I AM NIGERIA because the children are indeed the future leaders. We are fighting now to halt the trend that keeps suppressing the youth and making them followers. Enough is enough it is time for youths to lead.

Eliena Melekwe the face of I AM NIGERIA PROJECT was expelled from Blooms Academy, Abuja because she adorned a green white green bead to her hair. We will stand up for her and fight the injustice.

GOD-FATHER GOD-SON

Godfather Godson is a single off a 16 track album that will be released later this year on La Cream Music label. The video was directed by Might

As a keen observer of the Nigerian politics, this single is a satire not just to entertain but more importantly to make Nigerians see beyond what is playing out on the surface on the political scene. It is a wake up call.

"I am not a politician. I don't belong to any political party. I am a Nigerian that have a right and a say on who and how to be led. In my opinion godson is being distracted by godfather after he decided not to continue serving him but to serve Nigerians.

I am using this album to call on Nigerians to speak up and stand for what they believe in and not be confused by the propaganda they are throwing up against this administration. They should allow him continue with his transformation agenda.

"I have never met Jonathan, I am impressed by the lot he has achieved so far, that is why I am standing up for what I believe in and I know I am not alone on this."

LEST WE FORGET
Having left the Remedies Amicably Abdulkareem's solo debut album, P.A.S.S. ("Pains And Stress = Success") was released in 2002 on Kennis Music, and it was received well by Hip-Hop fans and Music Pundits alike, and it had tracks llike So Ligali featuring Pasuma Wonder, come Back Home, and the first ever diss song by a Nigerian Rapper Wackawickee MC's, where he took shots at Tony Tetuila, The Plantashun Boyz and Ruff Rugged and Raw.
Released the same year (and also on Kennis Music Imprint ) was the album titled Mr. Lecturer and this featured Abdulkareem's first video hit, the album's title track, which addressed the problem of students using money and sex to solicit higher grades in Nigerian colleges and universities, as well as Male lecturers exploiting female students and requesting sex and money in exchange for good grades.

He became the Olympic Torchbearer

This album further increased Eedris Abdulkareems popularity, and is cited in some quarters as the Best album which Eedris Abdulkareem ever released, as well as his highest selling album.

In 2004, Abdulkareem's third album, Jaga Jaga, appeared on Kennis. Its title track, which laments the corruption and suffering in Nigeria, was banned from radio airplay by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in a televised address, although it continued to be played in nightclubs.

In November 2005, Abdulkareem launched his own record label, La Kreem Music, and released his fourth album, Letter to Mr. President. The album's title track addressed Obasanjo's criticisms of "Jaga Jaga"; the album also featured "Flash Up Unu Lighter", a tribute to Obasanjo's wife, Stella, and the victims of the Bellview Airlines crash of October 2005.

Abdulkareem is also the founder of the Eedris Abdulkareem Foundation, a fundraising organization dedicated to fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa in conjunction with the Pat Utomi Foundation.

Watch and Enjoy- godfather, godson.

How to Promote Your Music in Nigeria

How to Promote Your Music in Nigeria
Every upcoming musician wants to “blow” (make it big) in the Nigerian music industry. A major question they ask at the beginning of their musical journey is how do I promote my music?
Since major record labels like Mo’hits, Kennis Music, EME, Chocolate city and Storm records that can manage, package and promote your songs will hardly get you signed, you will need to take up responsibility as your own music promoter.
My experience shows that unlike the USA where big labels like Sony BMI, Rockafella and Young money can sign up an artiste based on raw talent, in Nigeria you will have to showcase your talent and songs to a certain extent before you will be noticed by the music promoters, marketers and record labels.
There is the believe that without the big bucks you cannot promote your music on the radio stations which prompts thoughts like if only I had a record label/marketer/promoter.
The good thing is you can do it yourself without putting a big hole in your pocket and you do not have to rely on any record label, marketer or promoter.
Following the tips below will show you how to promote your music and get that basic exposure while also increasing your fan base.
Note that nothing good comes easy and you will need to sacrifice either in form of time, efforts, a night’s sleep just to get what you want.
Apply the tips to your success.

1.      MAKE GOOD SONGS:
Sorry I cannot teach you how to write a song. I believe you are reading this because you have the talent already to compose and record a good song. The type of song you do should be targeted to an audience with a good taste in music. It does not matter the genre hip-hop, funk, rock, house, R n B, classic, alternative- whatever! You should do music to impress thousands of fans and not just your family and close friends.
2.      ATTEND SHOWS REGULARLY:
Be it a club performance or sponsored show just be noticed. Keep your ears on the ground for upcoming shows and try to make friends with event organizers and tell them to put you on the list of performers and that you don’t mind doing it for free. Talk to the DJ at the club, give him a promo copy of your CD and encourage him to play it on his shows. You get to meet music industry people at musical shows. Build and maintain your contacts with them. You don’t know who has a marketer in Alaba or who has a friend in that radio station.

3.      USE SOCIAL MEDIA:
Open profiles on sites like Facebook, Twitter, instagram and MySpace which gives you the platform to interact with your fans. Update your social network profile regularly with interesting pictures and videos of you. Photos from an event you performed or a video of a studio recording session should do. You get not only fans from Nigeria but all over the world with these types of websites.  Social networking site gives you an online following which is good for your music career. Do not underestimate the power of the internet in building your music career.

4.      OFFER YOUR SONGS FOR FREE DOWNLOADS:
You want your songs to reach a wide audience and people generally love free music downloads. Upload your songs to music sites like Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Yourlisten, Hulkshare, kiwi6 and 4Shared and promote your download links to your fans on the social networking sites.
You can ask your fans to checkout your profile on these music sites and also share it with their friends. This will keep your songs in circulation. Do not worry about not being paid right now. People will pay you to perform at shows when your songs become popular. If you need to sell your music then Vibedeck is a great place where you can do so.

5.      PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC ON BLOGS:
You should submit your songs with a little profile and album art/ pictures to the top entertainment and music blogs and websites. Some of the best Nigerian music/entertainment blogs include Notjustok, Naijawhistle, GidiLounge, +iPromo Naija , TayoTV, Mr Madu's World, TalkofNaija, +BellaNaija Weddings, +Sooncome Music  and +linda ikeji ikeji . You might ask for an interview.  Some of them will feature your profile and music; others may not even reply your email. It is normal as an upcoming musician to face those things. When you become a celebrity, most of them will come begging you for an interview.
6.      ALABA IS A FACTOR:
There is always a headquarters of any industry. Alaba being the headquarters of the Nigerian music marketers, you should familiarize yourself with the people at Alaba. Try to get your song on the monthly Alaba produced DJ mixes even if you may be asked to pay for this.
Most Nigerian celebrity and superstar musicians went to Alaba for promotion in their upcoming days. That’s the home for Nigerian music and movie marketers. Imagine what a contact at Alaba will do for your musical career.
